| Hello, to all of the Rangers, especially those from 2/75. I was a medic there from 91-94. I have been trying to contact any of the rangers that I served with during that time. I am still looking for a group of people that I enjoyed working(serving) with more than that group of men. So, if anyone wants to contact me, please send me an email. I have also been trying to contact Jeremy Diehl, SGT.(Medic) from Fremont, Cal. Any information would be great! If any of the medics from then see this, PLEASE contact me. Just to talk about old times. SSG Nieman, SSG. Turner, SGT. Bergeson, and all of the guys!

| Got my copy of 'Patrolling' today and congrats on the hard work that it looks like all of you do on it. I like it - also am sending the 25 for membership and another 25 for the 'Family Fund'.
Looks like we need entry data for D/151st, or it might not a got there when it had to go to print. I got loads of pictures and some No Shit stories if you want 'um...hehehe
Any way, I got in touch with Pat Slatterly, he remembers me but I'm still tryin' to picture him. I remember givin' him a whole can of jalopenos, but I've slept since then. I see 'Frenchy' Jerry Green just about everyday now that I know he's been living not 2 miles from me for the last 30 years. I mighta cuss'd him out in traffic and didn't even now it was him. hehehe
Krazy Kevin is another I'm tryin' to remember. Most the time we were in the 'set' room on the radio monitorin' the teams, we were in different teams. I was in 2nd plt, Pat and Frenchy were 1st plt.
Dicky ---- I'm gonna make it to Ft. Lewis in July again, get with me and Jerry, Kaiser, Papp, Mead, Frank Park and the other bums.
Merry Christmas to all here and overseas

| Hey Fellow Rangers,
After I completed Basic Abn and Ranger School{1-71} I was sent to 'B'Co. 75th at Carson in the last part of 70'. I was lucky enough to be sent to Ft. Bragg, NC in Dec. of 70'to attend The 'Military Free-Fall Parachutist Course'
better known as 'HALO' I shipped out for Nam March 1971 and was accepted into 'N'Co.75th Rangers at LZ English. Came back to Ft. Campbell, KY with the 'Puking Buzzards' hold it I mean the 'Screaming Eagles'101st Abn Div. That's where I ETS'ed.
I'm proud to have been a Ranger and wouldn't trade the brotherhood we have for anything! I want to thank all the men in the Ranger Units now in Iraq, Afgan and other hot spots. I know that they will uphold the tradition that we Rangrs have done iin the past. May the 'Big Ranger In The Sky' and our Lord Almighty be watching over them!

| I sleep well knowing our brothers are out there protecting us.
A Rangers Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chimney with presents to give,
And had to see just who in this home did live.
I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, No Presents, Not even a tree.
No stocking by the mantle, just boots full of sand.
On the wall hung pictures, of a distant land.
With Medals and Badges, Awards of all kinds,
A sober thought, came to mind.
For this house was different, it was dark and dreary,
I found the home of a Ranger, Once I could see clearly.
The Ranger lay sleeping, silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor, In his one bedroom home.
The face was so gentle, The room in such disorder,
Not how I pictured, A United States Airborne Ranger.
Was this the hero of whom I'd just read?
Curled up on a poncho, The floor for a bed?
I realized the families that I saw this night,
Owed their lives to these Rangers, who where willing to fight.
Soon around the world, children would play,
And grownups would celebrate, a bright Christmas day.
They enjoyed Freedom, each month of the year,
Because of these Rangers, like the one lying here.
I couldn't help wonder, how many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas Eve, In a land Far from home.
The very thought, brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.
The Ranger awakened, and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa don't cry, this life is my choice;
I fight for Freedom, I don't ask for more,
My life is my God, My Country, My Regiment."
The Soldier rolled over, and soon drifted to sleep.
I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.
I kept watch for hours, So silent and still
And we both shivered from the cold night's chill.
I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark night,
This Guardian of Honor, so willing to fight.
Then the Ranger rolled over, with a voice soft and pure,
Whispered, "Carry on Santa. It's Christmas Day, All is Secure."
One look at my watch, and I knew he was right.
Merry Christmas my friend, And to all a good night
Though I be the Lone Survivor...Rangers still lead the Way!

| Airman Carle, I'm Gunner, sorry for your loss. I'm sure your uncle was a good Ranger while assigned to the 1ST (Ranger) Bn. It is the wish of the 75TH Ranger Regiment Association to connect with family of former Rangers of the unit. To E-mail a particular member of the 1ST (Ranger) Battalion please, E-mail their Rep. go to "Assn. Units" and punch it up, when it appears continue to scroll down to 1ST (RANGER)Battalion, there you will find a name there, punch it up and you can explain what you need to the Rep. As to your father's display case a 1ST RANGER BN DSSI scroll can be purchased under the Ranger Quartermaster or (maybe) the rep could tell you how to order one. Thank you for your inquiry. Happy Thanksgiving, RLTW Gunner.

| I write this to wish all a good Thanksgiving and to say grace for the families that loss a Ranger in some far-off operation past and present conflicts. I also speak of those families who have had a Ranger give their live in conduct of training. May God bless you all and your table. This is in memory of our fallen brothers called Lrrp or Ranger, for we are the family of Rangers.
P.S. It is alway nice to read these e-mails of what our Rangers think and say. some request to talk to old buddies, some want answers, some to join, some just to thank us for our participation in war or for protecting our nation-whatever the reason,I can say-when I ask for something it is always nice when someone respond to help me. Don't you feel that way too? So the next time you read an E-mail on this guestbook site, if he's a Ranger, talk to him. If his here and I see him I stop and ask him how he's doing, hell, buy him a cup of Joe or get two cokes and give him one. just like sharing a couple of bits of LRP rations out the bag-team mates right, Hooah? RLTW Drop by the Marauder/Ranger website and say Happy Thanksgiving or Merry Christmas. Don't be the one who always waits to be told what to do, as the commercial states "just do it".

| Does anyone read these comments? If so, when someone suggest something does anyone on the Board of Officers investigate or acknowledge the common valve of the stated message, or is this just a place to say hello to past friends? The reason I ask, is because there are things that seem to go un-answered as to the status of on-going projects and the status of Ranger business. There seems to be no sharing of information between USARA, 75TH RRA, Merrill's Marauders Assoc, RICA, etc. How can we utilize this guestbook to advantage so we can get answers to our question? If there is a board member that we are to contact Please let me know. Ranger Gunner

| Want to wish all the men down range, best of luck. Wish I was able to give a helping hand. Things are in the works, may run into me in the near future. I've been off line for awhile,if my e-mail address doesn't work, I'll give it another shot.
Seems like the years are flying by, have fun while you can, never no when you may not be around to enjoy it.
There appears to be alot of political nonsense flying around our current campaigns. It's alittle discouraging, but to a real soldier, it's irrelevant. A real soldier does his job and doesn't worry about how long it will take, how much praise he is getting , or how nice the accomadations are going to be. A real soldier sucks it up and completes the mission. That's what seperates the men from the boys.
To all of my fellow rangers out there, hope things are going well. To all the rangers that are serving, be smart and make sure your buddy makes it back, no matter what it takes! RLTW Bco 1/75th 1plt 88-92 Jett

| Mr. Dave Walker
I saw your message in the last Patrolling about the Recondo school at Ft. Carson. I served with B/75 from 70 -74. We did not run the Recondo school at any time. The school was a 5th Inf Div school when I arrived there in 70 and later changed to the 4th Inf Div recondo school when they came to Carson. The school was set up about 15 miles from the main post and was called Camp Red Devil.B/75 did sent a few of our people there as instructors from time to time. I was assigned to Camp Red Devil in 77 when I returned from Korea, and at that time it was part of the post NCO Academy, we ran the BNCOES classes. Sorry you were mislead.

| My thoughts: I want to play Devil's advocate; Why is it when the LRRPs LRPs RANGERs put on paper their unit capablity, it is written incorrectly?
Example: E Company (LRP), 51ST Inf (ABN). It should be Company E (Long Range Patrol), (Airborne), 51ST Infantry. Unless the 51ST Infantry Regiment is Airborne it should not be identified as such. The company is (detached) from the 51ST Infantry Regiment and is Airborne, the Airborne capability is not extended to the regiment. Because it is a Long Range Patrol unit on Airborne status, it should be identified in such a manner. Another example, the 75TH Infantry was never Airborne but it's Ranger & Long Range Patrol Companies were and yet it is written as 75TH (Ranger) Infantry (Airborne). While we were in Vietnam, the Companies were both (Ranger), (Airborne), The 75TH Infantry was identified as "Merrill's Marauders" So my question is this, how did this get changed around and where is the documentation that says the 75TH Infantry Regiment became an Airborne Unit? I gotta tell ya, this one of those errors & omissions I keep hearing about. Gunner a Lrrp Ranger Historian

To all the HOOAHs just back form the shooting matches. You all have done a great job and are to be commended.
If anyone knows the where-abouts of MSG (RET) Harold Roberts. Tell him I would like to get in touch with him. He retired in the summer of 1995. I think he lives in the Renton area.
Ranger Dow I think we were in the same Pre-Ranger class. in 1977 and went to ranger class 8-77. I hope you are doing well.

| For those who knew him.
Ranger Charles W. Gray "Bill", age 52, former Sergeant with A Company, 1st Battalion, (Ranger) 75th Infantry, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
Bill volunteered and was assigned to the newly formed Ranger in 1975, arriving from the 101st Airborne Divison. Like all true Rangers, Bill loved being a Ranger and soldier, plus being assigned to the elite Ranger Battalion. Later, Bill decided to apply his talents and lerned skills being a civilian. In 1979, Bill was honorably discharged from the US Army and began his civilian career as a demolition expert.
During a routine medical examination in April 2003, it was discovered that Bill had pancreatic cancer. Bill would say the he was ambushed by a superior and brutal enemy force.
In true Ranger fashion Bill fought gallantly calling in a surgical strike which removed parts of his intestines, stomach and pancreas. Bill still being under attack moved to his secondary fighting position and called in advance weapons - chemotherapy and radiation.
Bill continued the fight knowing that Ranger is not a surrender word.
On 26 September, 2003 the enemy cancer over ran Bill's position. Bill was killed by the enemy identified as pancreatic cancer.
I am sure that Bill is standing at the position of attention before the Big Ranger in the Sky, rendering a proper hand salute and stating:
"Sir, Ranger's Lead The Way, Sir".

| Hello fellow LRRPS,, this is a great site, I found by accident going through 4th Div web site. I joined the LRRPS 2ND BDE in Sept 67 till Aug 69, was at firebase Oasis at Kontum. Seemed like I was pulling missions all the time my first year, later I became 2R radio relay for our platoon, as you all know relaying between teams in the field back to our fire base or S2. 33 years is a long time, however I do remember some of the men I served with and those great LRRPS who gave there lives for our country. Would love to get in touch with any other 2nd Bde LRRPS, so if you one or know someone who was please let them know about me. I have seen one man who was in the LRRPS with me his name is Dick Shaner,,,, do you remember him. God Bless you all.

I want to say hello to Tony Lewis too. He is a great Ranger that contributed much to the regiment. In addition, I have one subdued 1/75 scroll, and two colored scrolls left. I extend my appreciation to the men of the regiment for making a difference in this turblant time.

| We who served as LRRP, LRP, RANGER, are all Infantry Rangers according to the US Army Chief Of Staff. We were moved along by order of the Secretary of the Army as these Special Reconnaissance Army Support Units (ASU) created at first as a test unit to gather intelligence "Passive" reconnaissance as patrols. Meaning-to observe and monitor (Unseen and unheard) and only turn combative for the survival of the patrol or as ordered by a strategic authority, Army, Corps level command for the purpose of atomic placement missions. Officially disbanded to allow DA LRP units activation per Secretary of the Army.
Long-Range Patrol (LRP)-Reconnaissance patrols, combat patrols, raids, rescue, surveillance, sniper missions, etc. DA far-ranging special reconnaissance units. labeled a type of Ranger or Ranger-type Unit. Now that we know that, the US Army had moved our units from the WWII timeline and to create a course for Ranger volunteers to be trained at and to save our Ranger LINKAGE by having Ranger & Ranger-type Units in the US Army to carry Ranger traditions such as Special Forces and LRRP. This was first done with the authority of the Chief of Staff starting with the Korean War Ranger Companies (Airborne)(Provisional), the need for Ranger units were only approved in the later 50's and 60's as(Secret) "Ranger-type" Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols. in the late 60's the official title "Ranger" has been brought back to represent LRRP,LRP as a proper title of a far-ranging individual and scouting element. Hence Provincal and Provisional Rangers had started in 1676 and became TO&E 1967 as L.R.P. and evolved from Detachments to Battalions and became C.A.R.S. then full Ranger Regiment in 1985 to allow consolidation of Seperate Battalions of Marauders and Rangers as well as Companies (One Ranger Community).

| Ranger Bill "Bean" McHarg, who passed away last week at the Bay Pines VA Center, was one of the finest soldiers to serve. I was privileged to know "Bean" during my tour with the BDQ in the Central Highlands and even more privileged to have been one of the small circle of friends he maintained during the past thirty some years. I posted a lengthy essay to Dana McGrath and Gil Berg (at his request) in an attempt to do justice to the memory of Bean. For those who are in the Wash DC area and are interested, Bean McHarg will be buried at Arlington on Tuesday Sept. 30th at app. 10:45 am.
Bean, set down your ruck and take a break, you've earned it. The rest of us will drive on and meet you at the rally point.

Back in the 70s Sgt Hawk and Spc. Delli Bovi Gave the words to " Rangers in the Night". Does anyone have them? Also "Walking in a Sniper Wonderland". I've even called the Sniper school at Bragg and they had no clue. I see we can order a CD with "Blood on the Risers", but does anyone have the words to "Ralph the Airborne Ranger"?

| I read a 4 page report that was held at Ranger tab board. It states that the AR for military awards needs to be updated. It goes on to say the LRRP/LRP/Ranger-type units of the Vietnam Conflict needs to be included as being the true carriers of the 75TH Ranger Infantry for their time to give a connection to the present day 75TH Ranger Regiment.
Once this is accomplished then the award of the 75TH Ranger Rgt Scroll can be awarded. NOTE: As it stands now LRRP Rangers of the Vietnam Conflict has nothing "Officially" that identifies them as (Rangers) As it is now, only (4)Ranger Companies of RVN Era are carried on the books as having Lineage to the present day 75TH Ranger Regiment.
So let me get this straight no tab, no scroll, no beret, no lineage. So what is being done about this? and why is it in this delimma? Damn Boys! We can do better that this.

| In you ranger units page you don't list "O" Co. when it was in Alaska. The Scroll was blue & white with the words "Arctic Ranger". Their linage (?) & wing Background oval patch was then passed on to the 3 Charlie Company's asigned to the 172/nd LIB. The wing oval background patch is white with a blue surround in this is white stars repesenting the big dipper & north star. Here after & forever known thru the late 1970's & 80's as "Charlie Airborne". Doing the job of seperate Airborne companys within "LEG" Batlions. Arctic LRRP work for the Alaska command.. | Last year I was lucky enough to get info on my friend and Brother ... Ray Apellido ... KIA Sept. 1970 ... It helped put to rest the questions I had about his death. Ray was a big brother to me in Nam, I miss him as much today as the day he died. I would like anyone who has any pictures of Ray to please forward them to me. I was lucky enough to get some last year and am putting together a tribute to Ray. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to all those who responded last year. To all of you who continue to search and look for answers, I can only say, don't give up.
Somewhere out there is a connection ... it will happen.
God Bless all my Brothers, those no longer with us and those scattered throughout ... Quang Tri - the bond that will never be broken. As for Ray, I know he appreciates being remembered, because he made a difference to me and to many others ... a true friend and brother.

| I would like to make a few comments about your site. I came in here hoping to find out if you had a John Kiefel listed anywhere as I went to HS with him and I was trying to locate him. While checking out your guest book I discovered a number of posts concerning the 11th ACR LRP/ARP unit. Yes this Unit did exist. Just prior to my arrival it was a full blown LRRP Unit. Then Col. George Patton III used the hell out of them to great effect. When I arrived it was more a LRP(Sometimes ARP) Platoon(under col Donn Starry). We normally operated heavy(12 plus) and primarily on the Cambodian Border forward of An Loc and from our Base Camp at Quon Loi. Just prior to my Departure the unit moved to Dian(ZEON] and started patrolling in the mountians around Xuan Loc. I can never remember us having anymore then 21 people assigned(Volunteers). This I believe was one of the reasons why we didn't do a hell of a lot of 6 man LRRP mission. That and the fact we were opconned to the 1st Cavalry Division who had H company who I believe handled all of thier taskings in that respect. We did constant LRP missions prior to the Sanctuary Campaign and I believe at one point We were the furthest forward deployed LRP/ARP unit during the Invasion. Jack Fuller a writer for the Stars and Stripes wrote a front Page Article about us for the Stars and stripes in which he outlines that mission. I have had this discussion in the past with folks concerning our status but it doesn't really bother me. Rangers paid the price in training to get that TAB.
Although we did the job and looking back at it over the years we probably did it as well as anyone could have done it. We have never asked to be included in your organization.
As a matter of fact we always knew why we were a "Bastard" outfit I never really knew why until I read Mr. Starnes post here. Some of the fellows a few years ago petitioned the Army to recognize our unit seperately. They in Fact awarded the ACT of the 11th ACR seperate Chapter status. We are Proud to call ourselves LRP/ARP. Thats what we did thats how we operated and I would dare anyone to prove otherwise. The Platoon though small had ,while I was there a 2lt who was a direct commission from our ranks. a 03 CPT and a 1LT as platoon leaders. Thomas White the past Sec of the Army is numbered in as a Platoon Ldr as a Cpt. To me if anyone would like to call into question anything I have been going on about here I would suggest he would be as good as source as any to query. Anyway you folks have a great site here and if any of you know a Sgt John Kiefel who was with the 101st LRRP unit in 1969-70 or 1970 I would appreciate it If you directed him to the e-mail address that heads this post.
Thanks And May God continue to Bless the United Staes and those that defend her.

| After reading the posting by "Reston Jim" several times, I felt compelled to respond. I've never met Gary Linderer, but I have read and enjoyed his books. I don't know if his stories are true or not, and I don't care. There are only six men who know. The FACT is, he EARNED the right to tell them. I noted that "Reston Jim" listed his military affiliation as other. Maybe he doesn't understand what it is like to be in the jungle with four or five other men, so far away from freindly troops that commo is only twice a day, when the FAC plane flies near. When he has ambushed a lone VC only to find he was a point man for an NVA company, and had to run three thousand meters through the jungle, waiting for commo to get help, then he will have EARNED the right to question someone elses decisions. I wish that "Reston Jim" could have made the trip across the river to Ft. Benning on the day he posted his complaints. He could have seen the induction for the Ranger Hall of Fame, and could have talked to many of us, instead of hiding in annonimity of the internet.

There's definitely no denying me, my brothers who I only knew briefly as a child found me and we definitely look alike. Ranger Roberts, if you are my father, I've waited 25 years to hear your voice again. My mom says you're a hero who fought for our country and I should be proud. | Ten years ago Ranger Boatman (75RRA Secretary) and I spoke of the LRRPs of the 11TH Air Cavalry Regiment(Separate). The US Army had them confused with the 23D Inf Division's 11TH (LT) Infantry Brigade's 70TH LRP Detachment. The 70TH LRP Det was a DA authorized LRP unit. Under the orders of the Supreme Allied Commander General William Westmoreland Jr, the 11TH ACR was authorized by his verable order to form an in-country (PROVISIONAL)Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) as a (Separate) Regiment/Brigade. From September 16TH 1967-31 December 1967 the evolution of DA LRP was the next step. What happened was all (PROVISIONAL) LRRP Detachments were deactivated by order of the Secretary of the Army. The US Army at the "clerk level" did not issue DA LRP status to the 11TH ACR LRRPs. The why of it; Was total debandenment. The 11TH Inf Bde's 70TH LRP was closed down in 31st January, 1968 and at the clerk level the US Army confused the two different LRRP/LRP units. Both, 11TH ACR (LRRP) Detachment and the 11TH Bde 70TH (LRP) Detachment continued to operate thereafter to provide reconnaissance coverage for their units. In May 1968, the 70TH LRP reconnaissance soldiers were incorporated assets to 23D Inf Division's Co E (LRP),(ABN), 51ST Inf and the 11TH ACR (LRRP) continued to provide reconnaissance, surveillance coverage to the 11TH ACR as the "Eye and ears of the commander". It is my firm believe that the LRRP Soldiers of the 11TH ACR were accidentially forgotten to be ear marked as Rangers when the 3rd evolution came as (RANGER)Units formed on 1 January 1969. In ever sense the 11TH ACR LRRPs did the job as far-Ranging soldiers deep behind enemy territory. With that said I feel these soldiers should be extended 75TH RRA membership. Even if they were not extended DA LRP Status they certainly were LRRPs doing the job. 31 years is a long time to wait for approval. Stay a LRRP-stay alive, Rangers Lead the way.

| To all of us who were touched by Bob Hope at some time in our lives, you therefore know, we have lost a true hero. Many try to claim that infamous title but few actually really attain to that level. Bob Hope did exactly that in my book. I was privileged to attend the 1970 Bob Hope Christmas Show in Long Bien Vietnam. Despite being so far back that he was merely a speck, I was still nonetheless elated by the fact of being there. Even at that time, I realized what an important milestone it was in my life to be there in attendance. I have watched as many of our important icons of this century have passed away. This is truly a sad day for veterans. Bob Hope gave more of himself for and to the active duty serviceman than any other person I know. May God be gracious to this man and watch after him for all eternity. May his family find comfort in the knowledge of his accomplishments and deeds. Please take a moment of silence and remember this man and those of our fallen comrades who have gone before him.

| Thanks to all who responded to my questions. You led me in the right direction. Not only did I discover that all LRRP's were not Ranger qualified(I was led to believe this) I was enlightened in regard to Project Delta SF B-52 and the document dated 6 february 1970 abolishing the Name LRRP and reestablishing the name and designation of "Ranger" on all LRRP units. Your help is appreciated. Thanks to you LRRP's/ARP's from the 11th Cav who gave me the info I requested. You can be proud of the marvelous job you did over there. After the book is written you will hopefully recieve the recognition you so roundly deserve. Thanks again and may god Bless each and every one of you.

| I was doing research for a book on LRRP units in Viet Nam.
I have located Histories and profiles on many with one exception the 11th Armored Cavalry Regt. The Department of the Army Lists a Chapter assigned to the LRRP/ARP element of the Air Cav Troop of this Unit. Upon investigation I discovered that this unit was Organized to conduct LRRP missions in addition to AirCraft recovery and ambush taskings. This Unit was All Volunteer and had between 25 an 40 people assigned to it. Ex-Secretary of the Army Thomas white was a Platoon Leader as a Captain. The Unit had many Rangers assigned to it and were very selective of Volunteers. The unit was very highly decorated and received nearly 25 Silver stars in it's 4 year exsistance.
The operations and RZ for this unit was Xuan Loc and Later War Zone C and the Cambodian Border. They took up most of the taskings of the 1st Divisions RZ upon the 1st divisions redeployment. I would like to hear from any Rangers who were assigned to this Unit and in particular the operation in which the Platoon received 7 Silver Stars for the bunker complex incident and 9 LRRPS accounted for nearly 100 dead enemy. I have heard bits and pieces but I would like to talk to someone who was there.
Any info you Rangers could provide would be greatly appreciated.

| Although I personally know little of Dana McGrath, I was in attendance last year during his appointment as the 75 RRA President. Not ONCE did I hear a negative comment voiced about Dana from any individual.
I don't know why certain individuals have chosen to attack others in the LRRP-Ranger-Special Ops community, but I for one wouldn't care to have any of the former watching my six on a mission.
I wonder how many skeletons they have hanging in their closets?

| To who ever
I spent almost 4 years in B/75 at ft carson I came there from 18 months with C/2/503 2nd plt. Gun team, Point team, and for the last 6 month as plt sniper.
In B/75 I went to halo, SF Jumpmaster, Recondo, and Northern warfare training center and lived on a Ice cycle for 3 weeks. I did every thing a school trained ranger done for almost 4 years. But I am not a ranger. I don't claim to be one. I was just in the rangers. As I understand the bylaws of this assn. just to serve in one of thease fine units is good enough to belong. No mater what you did in that unit. If you are good enough to pay your money and belong you are good enough to get elected to what ever office your peers will elect you to.
If you have problem with somebody this is not the place to air it. I believe the person in question has his email posted if you have a problem take it up with him. He can give his wittnesses or not.

| Kinda feel sorry for the guy who is calling Dana a "phony", as he has obviously fallen for a big lie. Anyone who truly knows Dana and the Association would know the following -
1. Dana's RVN service has been related by his team members and his former 1st SGT, face to face, to a great many members of the Association. BTW, the VP of the Association is a former teammate of Dana's - Does Mr. Jones have any comment about that?
2. Dana's election was endorsed by his predecessors.
3. At the time Dana was elected, there was no objection to his candidacy from the members present. The only question was one from the floor about Dana speaking to the group, as some members did not know him. Dana spoke, and was applauded at length for his off-the-cuff speech.
It appears the Association is running very well these days, and I believe it is because of Dana and his great predecessors, not in spite of Dana.
Perhaps Mr. Jones thinks he could do a better job. He is welcome to run for the office at the next reunion. I would like to see Mr. Jones speak before the group - it might be as interesting to watch as Dana's speech.
I doubt it. It is so much easier to be an faceless critic hiding in the anonymity of the internet than to stand in front of a crowd of Ranger veterans and denounce the Association President.

| Stutz,
That was at Terryall military reservation in Nevada. Our Company Commander (who shall remain nameless) saw the bear and then locked and loaded a live round and shot it dead with an M16. He and his driver loaded it in his jeep trailer and took it to town and traded most of it for beer and snacks. I do rememember one chunk of it roasting in the campfire. Probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

| Rick Jones Made the comment that Dana McGrath is a wannabe. (rott357@yahoo.com )Great site. It's a shame that the president of the 75th RRA is a wannabe who only served as a clerk for a Ranger unit. What evidence do you have? An acusation needs to be show with evidence. All you have posted was an FOIA, which does you no good. So what if Dana had a clerks MOS? Hell, I was a Combat Engineer got CHOSEN for the Infantry. Didn't know jack about the infantry. Learned real quick! I took over a line infantry platoon as Platoon Sergeant, running nightly roving ambushes. I didn't get to go to Ranger school until I came back from Vietnam and my third tour in country. I was 32 when I went through Ranger School. An old man by Ranger Standards. Got my Tab. I have EVERY respect for Dana. Now, either put up, or shut up.

| Hay you old B/75 guys somebody needs to tell the story about the black bear in the ranger camp. It was after the field problem was over and we were running low on beer. 6 or 8 kegs can only last so long with a 100 rangers. I had left to get more beer or somthing as equeally refreshing and when I got back there was a story of a bear that was hit on the nose with a stick and somebody with a live bullet and no gun. Bear meat is good. ok you old rangers get up off that story. and you have to tell names.

| While going through RECONDO school at FT carson I found out my tac Sgt was going to be my PLT SGT in B/75 his name was Felix Selix.A month or so later he went to jump school at age 43. Some while later Felix and Burt C. Smith went back to viet nam for theit 5th or 6th tour Felix was killed in action and Burt brought his body home. I lost track of Burt Rumor has it he was working at a pizza hut down by FT Bragg and was killed when some one held up the place. this would have been 71 or 72 sure would like to know for sure. Any body in the FT bragg area. If he is dead God give him peace and if he is not we need to recrute him.

| (Subject)LRP& Ranger Unit evolution: 70TH Infantry LRP and/or J Company (RANGER). Many have asked about "Company J" many have given their story about Company J. The fact of the matter is Company J, was inactivated before it was dubbed Ranger. You see 70TH LRP was an assigned LRP unit to the Hawaiian based 11TH Infantry Brigade (Separate) stationed in Schofield Barracks Hawaii. It was formed around June or July 1967. It got into the patrolling aspects of training, jungle school and even waterborne endeavors. It was an Airborne unit, but it's Brigade commander was not really interested as to Airborne capability as long as trucks and helicopters were around. He wouldn't even allow the authorized identification tab (Airborne) above the unit patch. It never fully achieve it's capabilities or authorized strength (No Support!). In Vietnam the unit as the 70TH LRP operated much like a line Reconnaissance Platoon and did very little far-ranging patrols. The US Army shut the unit down in January 1968 without reaching the next step as Company J (Ranger), 75TH Infantry. Rasonale to inactivate was the 11TH Brigade was made a (Light) Infantry Brigade and lost it's status as (Separate)as a part of the 23D Infantry Division (AMERICAL). The assets of 70TH LRP were given an opportunity to transfer to Company E (LRP)(Airborne), 51ST Infantry which evolved into G Company. Therefore, that was the fate of Company J (Ranger).

| Discovery: On the eve of our evolution from LRP to Ranger, it was discussed on August 1968 at Headquaters 5TH Special Forces Group as to where the Long Range Patrol units were to be grouped. In Nha Trang, Vietnam, this secret conferance was conducted to give proper lineage to a special skill unit conducting far-ranging reconnaissance and combat patrol actions. LRP was hard to define as Ranger or Special Forces. It was titled "Ranger-Type" like that of Special Forces and fit the mode to an "End Run" outfit due to their training as (Long Range Penetration) in Burma. However, in Vietnam regular troops were NOT tasked to perform hazardous duty outside of their fire and manuever training and had to volunteer to perform such duty. LRRPs were in the army system from 1958-1967 on a (Provisional) basics, but on a limited scale geared to Europe in case of a Soviet break through. The title LRRP was changed to DA Approved LRP assigned to random regiments for the purpose of support. In August 1968 the Merrill's Marauders lobbyists selected the LRPs to continue their units history and special status as (CARS)Rangers and picking up the capabilty (Airborne) through the Separate LRP Companies who were all on jump status. At any case, if the Marauders had left the LRPs alone there would not be Ranger Units today and LRPs would have been sloted as the 1ST (LONG RANGE PATROL) Battalion and the 2ND (LONG RANGE PATROL) Battalion, 5TH Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1ST Special Forces. This was on a (4) page document written and dated July 1968. Isn't it odd how things turn out. We were good enough to do the job and bring back Rangers but not good enough to get the recognition as validated Rangers. It goes to show either we were well trained or Ranger is a passe title and anyone could be trained to do it. Hey, where were all those Ranger trained guys when the bullets were flying? Where, Where, Where? yeah Right! It took us to get it right so they could function in the real world. So be it, RLTW!

| OK, I always hated to walk point, all right! But I was the best damn rear security you could ask for. So it's been only 34 years since I caught up. But I'm here now! The states and streets of LA are surely much safer than the Plei Mrong jungles and Central Highlands around Chu Pa anyday!! I think even the "rock apes" carried weapons, not to mention the green pit vipers, or other various animals lurking around the jungle floor of all sizes and varieties, some of which walked upright on two's, didn't visit you during a mission, surely the insects would get ya!
So for all you pals during that not too friendly place during 1969 remember old "DJ" from LZ Oasis at the 3rd Brigade 4th Infantry Division LRRP compound are monitoring this site from time to time, don't complain that this rear security was late -- I'm here -- and that's all that counts!
Actually, for all of you I sincerely say "Welcome Home".
Recondo all the way,
DJ Krone

| Just transferred to the USAR Retired Reserve after 30 years of enlisted and commissioned service including 8 years on active duty from 1973-81. Began my service in B/75 from April to October 1974 as a scout observer. B/75 was deactivated soon after 2d Ranger Battalion was activated October 1, 1974. Served in the 82d from 1979-81 as an Assistant G-3. Had the privilege supporting the War on Terrorism when I was mobilized for 12 months after 9/11 and spent 10 months in Southwest Asia supporting Operation Enduring Freedom as an Army Reserve Comptroller with Third Army/U.S. Army Central Command.

| I'd like to extend an invitation for Mr. Donald Cecil Hall, F/51st LRP, to attend the 101st LRRP/Ranger Assn. reunion in Laughlin, NV June 18-22, as our guest. Please bring your documented "proof" that the heavy-team mission of 11/20/68 involving two of our teams never occurred. Some of our survivors have questions you may be able to answer. Contact me at the above email address to confirm your attendance and arrange for your expenses to be paid. Hope to see you there.

| Hey Stutsman:
I'd like to know what happened to The Dirt too, if you hear from anyone that knows. Do you know anything about Bill Walters (3rd Plt/B/75)? In case anyone else may have information, we're referring to Sgt. Edward P. White, (think that MI is correct) Lima Company Rangers; then B/75 at Carson and Lewis; who then started 1/75 at Stewart with the rest of us as the cadre when the Battalion was formed in 1974.
I also have a whole list of people I'd like to hear from or about, if anyone knows... Is it appropriate to post that here in the guestbook?

Hey all kidding aside, I just wanted to wish each steely eyed, nail spittin, barrel chested sky jumping, triple E wearing, butt scratchin, Ranger a great Memorial Day. Remember the heart and souls of our veterans and the soldiers and others that didn't get to come home with us. I honor their sacrifice and I thank them for my life. I'm here because of the freedom they fought for and preseved at the cost of their life. | This past Friday April 25th (some may say it was the 24th) marked the 23rd anniversary of Charlie Angels with C 1/75th Rangers mission to rescue the hostages in Iran. 8 men lost their lives during that mission. They are not forgotten. Our prayers and blessing go to thier loved ones. Desert 1 and Desert II RANGERS LISTEN UP! Some of us have kicked around an idea of having a 25th Anniversary Reunion in Savannah. Well we are two years out. We need to do some preliminary planning. Perhaps if some of us are going to be in Columbus, GA this summer for the C of C ceremony for the Regt. we could put some ideas together. Contact me for those who are interested. | From time to time I run into Rangers, either on active duty or civilian. The 75TH Rangers are the bravest men on God's Planet. Everytime I meet one, old or young, you can't help but to feel good around their presences. Our legacy as Rangers is passed down to the next generation. We were given the fame and honors from the past, then we add to it. It is this love that we have as Rangers that will overcome anything or anyone put before us. As for Rangers called LRRP, I see bravery beon compare, going out in small parties with little to no support and accomplishing more than a Rifle Battalion or Brigade. It was these acts that saved and started the path back to traditional Ranger Companies and Battalions. Thank You for your devotion to a greater cause that self. RLTW Support a Ranger, any Ranger, buy him a cup of coffee, stop and talk to him. Gunner, Team Winston Chu Lai 68-69

| Ranger tab a service school qualification, or is it? Airborne tab a unit identity, not an individual qualification. Special Forces tab an individual qualification. SFODB Delta Project Recondo Arrowhead device is an individual qualification done away with in August 1985. LRRP tab (unauthorized) a specialized individual qualification for those who completed 240 hours (6) weeks of company level training for grades E1-E4 because Ranger school was not available to grades below E5 or soldiers in combat in LRRP,LRP,Ranger service. The Ranger course was "NOT" available to these soldiers already engaged in battle as Ranger-type or Ranger soldiers. Yes! The Ranger course was in place, however, not one Vietnam Conflict Ranger was authorized to go TDY from combat to Ranger School. Not one Platoon or unit was authorized to return intact for Ranger School. What the Ranger Course wanted was to have the soldier complete a combat tour as Ranger and then return to attend Ranger School. However, at no time or any Rnger unit was ever treated in this manner of disrespect in Ranger history.
Rangers lead the way "with or without tabs".

| I just wanted to convey my support, via the association, to all our deployed service men and women. Even though there seem to be many against the purpose that is served by our military, the fact of the matter is, being part of our armed services, may just about to be one of the most important, and couragous positions to be in. Espicially with the looming conflict ahead. Civilians across the United States, and the world very often fail to see just how valuable a powerful fighting force can be, and when employed properly, can very efficiently achieve every objective brought forth to bear. Thankfully our Commander and Chief has had the foresight to appoint and delegate very competant personnel, that are able to lead decisively, without the cloudiness of indecision, the most powerful fighting force in the world. The only weakness that the United States military has is when the doubt and indecisiveness raises it's deadly head and inevidably leads to fatal mistakes in decision making. Our insight President has realised this weakness, and disabled it.
It is our Armed Forces that has protected us for so long, and now must be called upon again to protect the very ideals that allow so many nay-sayers, the freedom to be. It is the awesome wrath that the United States has the ability to unleash that has kept those that support the cowardly attack on 9/11, to still deny, and hide like rabbits in their hole while the eagle awaits patiently for it's head to pop out. When the eagle strikes the world will know to never attempt to deny our freedom again. The swift exactness our our bombs, and intestinal fortitude of the United States soldier, will be known once again by our enemies as a force not to be trifled with.
I wish for everyone deployed around the world in the name of freedom, as well as those protecting within the borders of the United States, to maintain the clarity of purpose, swiftness of action, and humainess of descresion (where appropriate).
'FOR THOSE WHO HAVE FOUGHT FOR IT, FREEDOM HAS A TASTE THE PROTECTED WILL NEVER KNOW.'
Thank you for your time and hopefully these words will help motivate, should they be fowarded to an open bulletin board for our soldiers.

| Hello my Brothers. For some reason my computer wouldn't let me sign our Guestbook but all seems to be working now. I really enjoy reading the email that our Guestbook produces and would like to encourage all my November Company Brothers to use this as a Daily Journal. Also I have have been making an effort to get to know my Ranger Brothers in my area. I am near the Asheville area in Rutherfordton and would enjoy making a few day trips. I met JT Hog aka Jim Testerman at the reunion in July '02 and have had a great visit with him and his family in Virginia. I know I always enjoy an email from any of my Brothers and I respond asap. Let's been in contact with each other, especially those in my AO. Am looking forward to hearing from some of you. You have my email address so let's get something started. | George the TOOL sent me this web site. It's great. It's pay back time for France and Germany. We've wasted enough American blood for these clowns. Now they are bleeding us on our own soil. Buy American or from a country that supports us.

| This is, without a doubt, one of the most dynamically composed pieces I have ever seen. Be patient while it loads, it's big. Pay close attention to what you are watching. This is the reason our brave young men and women are overseas now, defending America from terrorism. I caution you, this is disturbing and may result in sever and deep anger. We must never allow this to happen again. We must never forget those who sacrificed all. God Bless America. Emmett

| To all the active duty Rangers: I say a prayer every night asking for your safty in these dangerous times. God be with you all. My special prayers go out to all the young Rangers I raised. Keep your powder dry and your head down.
My prayers go out for Sam Spears. One of my mentors in 1/75. I ask our Lord to heal him and give him the strength to drive on to the Ranger Obj.
RLTW,
David (Doc) Sisk

| Please visit the Department of Defense web page below and sign in thanking the men and women of the U.S. military services for defending our freedom. The compiled list of names will be sent out to our soldiers at the end of the month. So far, there are only about 2.0 million names. What a shame. National Military Appreciation Month. The entire exercise takes 10 seconds...literally.
Please pass it on to your email friends.

| I am trying to touch base with old buddies from Bn. I was in 1st Bn. from 75-77. My last jump was the one that claimed the life of Sgt.Maj. Cairo. If anyone knows how to put me in touch with anyone from that era, it would be much appreciated. How do I join this group?

| I served with G/75th in RVN Chui Lai Beach in 1970-71. I was with the unit when it stood down for return to the United States. Just prior to returning, we took a unit photograph (everyone in the unit) on top of a bunker. The photo was done by a professional photographer in a panoramic type of format. The photo was very dear to me. However, after I was returned to the states I was assigned to Fort Dix as a Drill Sergeant in a Basic Training Unit. During this period, my ex-wife destroyed my copy of the G/75th Ranger Unit photo. (Vindictive wife--major reason why she became ex-wife)If anyone knows where I can get a copy of this photo please, please, please contact me. Also anyone who served during this period of time with G-company 75th Ranger, or anytime prior or after--I'd like to hear from. Contact me at Asbury-Clark1@msn.com Thank You

| Its been awhile since I check in. I just wanted to say I met with a lrrp Ranger I served with 33yrs ago yesterday. Tim Hinderleiter, Jack Fuche, and myself got together in Ludington Michigan yesterday with Tim. It seems Tim has been traveling to our area for some time now. Anyway we worked out a plan and had ourself a mini reunion of sorts. I just want to say we had a great time and I am absolutely determined to make the reunion in 2004. I want to say to anybody else out there who has yet to make a reunion, you have got to find a way! Tim, Jack and I had such a great evening. You 71st Lrrps and M Co Rangers have got to make the next one! Take Care all you old warriors.

| Just checking in. I was with the 5th Corps LRRP from Feb 65
to Apr 68. Was assigned to Supply and then was assigned to
the S-4 Battalion during the draw down of officers.
My "Roomies" were Lightfoot and Stan Harris. Harris will remember "ERP", the then infamous "attention getting" by
our favorite Capt Haislop.
That was probably my favorite assignment in my 20 years.
Well, I should say by best was the 7 days in Bangkok.

| Howdy from the Land of 10,000 Frozen Lakes! Last time I visited this site I got info that allowed me to talk with my old team leader, Riley Miller, whose voice I hadn't heard in 30 years. It was good talking to him. I would like to communicate with other guys from P Company via email or phone. I misplaced my address list so I'm starting over. Thanks to those running this site...it looks great!
