 1942, 1 JULY Training began at the commando depot, , and the course was completed 31 July, at which time the battalion was assigned to the Number 3 and 4 Commando groups. Fifty Rangers from these groups took part in the Dieppe raid. Achnacarry, Scotland
  The 1st Ranger Infantry Battalion was constituted in the Army of the United States of America Garrickfengus, northern Ireland
 1943, 1 SEPTEMBER The Fifth Ranger Battalion was activated. Camp Forrest, Tennessee
 1943, 14 SEPTEMBER The Fifth Ranger Battalion began training. Camp Forrest, Tennessee
 1943, 5 NOVEMBER The 5th Ranger Battalion began Amphibious Training Base. Fort Pierce, Florida.
 1943 Companies A and B of the 1st Ranger Infantry Battalion were redesignated as the 3rd Ranger Infantry Battalion. Companies C and D were redesignated as the 4th Ranger Infantry Battalion. Companies E and F were redesignated as the 1st Ranger Infantry Battalion. 
 1943 Company F (Ranger), 75th Infantry, organized in the Army of the United States as an element of the 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional) and activated.  China-Burma-India Theater of Operations.
 1943 2nd Ranger Battalion constituted into the Army of the United States and activated. Camp Forrest Tennessee.
 1943 Redesignated as the 2nd Ranger Infantry Battalion and relocated to the European Theater of Operation. 
 1944, 8 JANUARY The 5th Ranger Battalion left New York harbor on HMS Mauretania. 
 1944, 18 JANUARY  The Fifth Ranger Battalion arrive at Liverpool, England. 
 1944, 19 JANUARY The Fifth Ranger Battalion move by rail to Leominster, England. 
 1944, 1 MARCH The Fifth Ranger Battalion move to Scotland for British Commando Training. 
 1944, 6 June  0710 H - U.S. Army 2nd Ranger Battalion begins assault on Pointe du Hoc. The 5th Ranger Battalion land at Omaha Dog White Beach. 
 1944 1st Ranger Infantry Battalion was disbanded. 
 1944 Company F consolidated with Company F, 475th Infantry, and redisignated as Company F, 475th Infantry. 
 1945 Company F 475th Infantry inactivated. Republic of China.
 1945 2nd Ranger Battalion inactivated. Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia.
 1948 1st Ranger Infantry Battalion was reconstituted in the Army of the United States as the 1st Infantry Battalion and activated. Panama Canal Zone
 1949 2nd Ranger Battalion redesignated as the 2nd Infantry Battalion, with Companies E and F disbanded. 
 1949 2nd Infantry Battalion activated. Panama Canal Zone.
