Don was fairly new to the company when he was put on my team. He carried the M-60 machine gun. First mission we made no contact so when waiting for the chopper to pick us up we had a live fire. I wanted to see how accurate my new m-79 and M-60 men were. When it was time for Don to fire the M-60 went ...click. I looked at him and he said he knew what was wrong with it nd had it torn down and back up and firing in about a minute. He said that would never happen again and I said "I know it won't!!!". He never failed to return fire when we made contact. After my last mission he went out and was wounded and in 1992 I found out he had died of wounds from that firefight.This was the same contact that killed Sgt. Thomas and SFC Floyd.
